Effect of Fluorometholone (FML) Acetate after Cataract Extraction

Abstract
We compared the antiinflammatory effect of fluorometholone acetate(O.1%) with that of prednisolone acetate(0.12%) in patients underwent cataract extration with intraocular lens implantation. And we also evaluated the intraocular pressure response after instillation of two kinds of eye drops.
We conducted this study in each thirty cataract patients with random double blind method. Each eye drop was instilled into the eye four times a day for 2 months. The results were as follows
1. The anti-inflammatory effect of FML was similar to that of prednisolone and there was no difference between two groups in statistical significance.
2. There was no intraocular pressure elevation in patients using FML and only one patients using prednisolone showed IOP elevation over 25mmHg at postoperative 2 months.
3. The most common subjective symptom was prickling sensation and followed by burning sensation, photophobie, Lacrimation, burning.
4. Comeal ersion, conjunctival injection and chemosis were noted a few patients but these disappeared as time passed by
